Gooseneck Coffee grew out of my passion for making (and researching) great tasting coffee. Guests to my home have been getting ‘gooseneck’ brews for years, and their popularity motivated me to create this business.
I hope you enjoy your Gooseneck Coffee as much as I enjoy making it.
Chay Allen, Chief Goosenecker
What makes Gooseneck Coffee different?
The method
At Gooseneck, each cup of coffee is made using the pour-over method: Water heated to 95°C is poured over coffee grounds resting on a ceramic filter using a ‘gooseneck’ kettle. Unlike espresso-based coffee, which uses a highly pressurised extraction method to produce quick shots, our approach increases the amount of time in which the grounds are in contact with the water. This draws out less acidity and enables more flavour to be extracted from the coffee. This brewing method also enables us to use a much wider variety of flavour profiles than you might be used to from espresso-based coffee.
The beans
Because we dose and grind the beans for each cup, we ensure customers are treated to a coffee that suits their taste buds, from fruity and floral to chocolatey roasts. We regularly update our menu so that we always have something a bit different for you to try.
The beans we use are hand-selected directly from the world’s best smallholder farmers and the freshest coffee harvests. This means they get the fairest price for their produce. Our coffee is also roasted using carbon-neutral methods, making it truly sustainable.
The horsebox
Our first home, the horsebox, has been fully customised inside and out. It is fitted with a Mahlkönig EK43 grinder, the industry standard for speciality filter coffee, a custom pour-over tray made for us in Tokyo, a Marco MT4 urn, a glass fronted double fridge, two sinks, and plenty of shelving. We can connect to electric hookups and also have an ultra-quiet generator for more remote locations.
